The Divine Light of Healing and Understanding The Crystal Age of Abundance and Longevity – FinalCall.com News

[Editors Note: This article is reprinted from Volume 33, No. 9; and The Final Call will continue to reprint articles written by our late and dear Mother Tynnetta Muhammad.]

Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth. A likeness of His light is as a pillar on which is a lampthe lamp is in a glass, the glass is as it were a brightly shining starlit from a blessed olive-tree, neither eastern nor western, the oil whereof gives light, though fire touch it notlight upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He pleases. And Allah sets forth parables for men, and Allah is Knower of all things Holy Quran, Surah 24, verse 35

All the cells of our body resonate with the intelligent communication of sounds and color and overall in perfect harmony and alignment with the forces of nature. This electrochemistry of the human body is capable of self-healing as a part of the element of our eco-system working within and without. In understanding this subject we, like the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, have to be exposed to erratic conditions that shape our environment and which oft times rob us of our natural state of being, causing changes in our genetic makeup and DNA. According to this resonant field of evolution that we have entered, collective consciousness is not easy to attain. Our bodies and minds are exposed to varying degrees of stressful components in our environment which can shut down our bodys natural defenses against the intrusion of illness and disease.

The original Black mans history in the Americas for more than 400 years has nearly destroyed 100 percent of our natural genetic material which defends us from this assault, leaving us open to disease and premature death. How do we reverse this condition and return back to the days of our ancestors who lived for hundreds of years at a time in the past? First of all, we must ask the question, what is the frequency of our thoughts? How do we think about ourselves and others? How can we be separated from the miserable condition that has been produced through ignorance and the lack of knowledge of self and kind now being exposed to a contaminant environment? The very air we breathe is toxic as well as many of the thoughts that we think. Our healing and restoration depends greatly upon the quality of our thinking and our determination to overcome the obstacles that lie in our path.

One might ask what does thought have to do with our miserable state of condition? If we can change the way we think about ourselves and others, we are in the process of eliminating the waste material that has accumulated over the years as a result of our disrespect to ourselves and a righteous way of life. When we, as a people, were found by our Saviour, Fard Muhammad, he described our condition as that of a dead man or a person who has been totally robbed of the knowledge of self and the knowledge of God and were living a savage lifestyle. Along with our thinking, we must breathe pure and clean oxygen in the air and take in vital foods to fight stress and disease.

Through centuries of exploitation and fear during the period of slavery, we turned into ourselves and are continuing to commit mass murder and suicide as a people doomed to failure. This struggle and war against ourselves has produced a sick people, nation and society. We have practiced living the life of our former slave masters which has brought a complete fall to the fulfillment of our divine destiny.

We must stop attempting to live the lifestyle of our open enemy rather than following the essence of our own natural being and way of life.

According to our sacred writings of lessons (The Supreme Wisdom) given to us to study, the Problem Book teaches in a mathematical way that the Lost-Found Nation of Islam lacks a thorough knowledge of themselves and is living in a miserable state when we were found by our Saviour, W. D. Fard. Following this opening statement, we are given a series of six problems which describe our mental and physical condition, and we are identified as the uncle and the wife of Mr. W. D. Fard in the wilderness of North America, living a life other than their own and weighing other than themselves.

This miserable condition leads to our poor health condition which includes: rheumatism, headaches, and pain in all joints, high blood pressure and heart failure. This miserable condition continues until the second and third Uncle are totally deprived of oxygen to breathe in such a toxic atmosphere. They must depend upon the doctors with their drugs and pills to keep them alive on life support systems until we are pronounced dead. Master Fard Muhammad described our condition in this same Problem Book as being the factors of death added to the eating of the wrong food, especially the hogs diseased carcass and using other meal helpers at least three times a day, until we have created such a toxic environment in our bodies and minds that destroys our beauty appearance nearly 100 percent.

Following the discussion of the sick uncle and his wife who are related to Master Fard Muhammad, a great explosion in the very atom of the atmosphere takes place. This explosion in the atmosphere may represent an explosion of Divine Knowledge regenerating oxygen into our lifeless bodies, relieving us of the symptoms of death escaping the over 400 years of servitude slavery. In some of the research of the food and drink that was fed to our fore-parents on the TransAtlantic Slave crossing, sea water was given to our fore-parents to drink along with other undesirable food items.

The present world order of the exploitation of the Black and Indigenous people of the planet is now coming to an end and we are now being taught a higher science of divine that will restore us and lead us into a new world of thought, gradually eliminating the poisons we have carried in our bodies and our minds for over four centuries. We are now extending the life force to revive the dead and return back to a healthier condition through the Divine Teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

Finally, I remember how the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad upon his move to Mexico stated that he had always been looking for the right atmosphere and believed he had found it. While he was seeking to extend our life, others were plotting to take his life and to continue to pollute the environment with wicked and negative thoughts against his Divine Moves to bring our nation back to life again.

As we continue our journey with the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan throughout the world on his World Friendship Tour III, we are seeing and experiencing his efforts to find a way to unite both East and West as one under the call of Divine Unity so that we who sat in darkness now see a Great Light. We, who are counted as lost, are now found and are beginning to breathe a new life of Freedom, Justice and Equality by changing the very atmosphere of our thoughts.

(It is) in houses which Allah has permitted to be exalted and His name to be remembered therein. Therein do glorify Him, in the mornings and the evenings, Men whom neither merchandise nor selling diverts from the remembrance of Allah and the keeping up of prayer and the paying of the poor-ratethey fear a day in which the hearts and the eyes will turn about.Holy Quran, Surah 24, verses 36-37

To be continued.

New Research Uncovers Why Bats Excel As Viral Reservoirs Without Getting Sick – SciTechDaily

Study confirms bats adopt multiple strategies to reduce pro-inflammatory responses, thus mitigating potential immune-mediated tissue damage and disease. Findings provide important insights for medical research on human diseases.

Bats act as reservoirs of numerous zoonotic viruses, including SARS-CoV, MERS CoV, Ebola virus, andmost likelySARS-CoV-2, the pathogen behind the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, the molecular mechanisms bats deploy to tolerate pathogenic viruses has remained unclear.

Now scientists from Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore, have discovered novel molecular mechanisms that allow bats to tolerate zoonotic viruses without getting sick. Published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), the study suggests that bats adopt unique strategies to prevent overactive immune responses, which protects them against diseases caused by zoonotic viruses.

The team examined three bat speciesPteropus alecto (black fruit bat), Eonycteris spelaea (cave nectar bat), and Myotis davidii (Davids myotis bat)and identified mechanisms that balance the activity of key proteins that play a major role in mediating immunity and inflammatory responses in mammals. These mechanisms enable bats to harbour and transmit zoonotic pathogens without setting off the detrimental consequences of immune activation.

One of the mechanisms bats use is to reduce the levels of caspase-1, a protein that triggers a key inflammatory cytokine protein, interleukin-1 beta (IL-1). Another mechanism they employ hampers the maturation of interleukin-1 beta cytokines through a finely-tuned balancing between caspase-1 and IL-1.

Suppression of overactive inflammatory responses improves longevity and prevents age-related decline in humans. Our findings may offer potential insights to the development of new therapeutic strategies that can control and treat human infectious diseases, said Professor Wang Linfa, senior and corresponding author of the study from Duke-NUS Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Programme.

This study exemplifies the world-class research led by our talented faculty to advance fundamental scientific knowledge. Professor Wangs research is all the more important in the context of COVID-19, by contributing to a greater understanding of how zoonotic diseases persist in nature, and potentially aiding new approaches to managing future outbreaks, said Professor Patrick Casey, Senior Vice-Dean for Research, Duke-NUS Medical School.

CYBER HITEC: Wellness is the New Guest DNA – Hotel Business

NATIONAL REPORTThe HITEC that the industry has come to know looked a lot different this year but still delivered on its mission: delivering the latest in technology and innovations, a mission that may be more vital this year than ever before.

In CYBER HITECs opening general session, The Convergence of Innovation and Wellness to Stability, John Picard, founder, John Picard & Associates, shared his thoughts on industry innovations this year, and it starts with health and wellness.

This isnt just a flat tire, this is a game-changerthe preexisting model for hospitality and the meeting business has been broken, Picard said. In our American story, innovation has never been fueled by stability. The biggest opportunities have always been born in some form of crisis. Its only in our nature to reimagine the world and its our last available choice.

He added that the global pandemic has brought about an unexpected reprieve and opportunity for clarity.

Embracing that pause has allowed us to ask ourselves if there hasnt been a better way to build and manage our business all of this time, maybe we werent willing to honestly access our circumstances because the system was working just well enough for all of us to maintain that comfort of the status quo, he said.

The status quo is changing, however, and at an even more rapid pace as guests turn to health and wellness for a sense of comfort.

How do we create the most meaningful guest experience and environments for people to deeply connect to? Accelerating pace, people are still people, and we have to design to their needs, Picard said.

He continued, What if health and longevity were at the center of everything we did for our guests, customers, employees and ourselves? How do we build this and make this real?

Longevity and wellness centers in hotels could launch more opportunities and revenue streams, Picard noted, making them available to locals while revitalizing business travelers and other guests who may stay a day longer for self-care.

What does an autonomous hotel look like? Picard asked Imagine a building that thinks and learns as it lives and actually becomes the companion to its guests. Digital twins are emerging and changing the portfolio value of real estate. You couple that with AI and machine learning and the result is an autonomous structure with a consciousness. With todays AI capabilities, a building could have software-consciousness that allows it to interact with its guests. Now, imagine the human-digital twin and the building-digital twin working in concert. This is how we code the wellness algorithms and every guest could have one. This is the new guest DNA.

Picard said that if the platform is built for this, the apps will follow, delivering on incremental revenue. If you get this right, youre making money in the cloud, he said.

These advances could be sensor floors that help maintain proper physical distancing, COVID sensors that can instantly identify the virus in 300 sq. ft. and even COVID test tongue sticks with Bluetooth connectivity.

Tools like this will help build the safety cage we all need to renew our collective sense of trust and that will allow us to gather again, Picard said.

He noted other advances could include real-time tuning our spaces to correspond to an occupant circadian rhythm; adjusting lighting and temperature humidity; smart windows; and a BMS system that are all connected to a sensor system running predictive analytics all to make our customers more comfortable, to rejuvenate them and to restore their sense of wellnessWellness is the upgrade, the new differentiator, the new driver for loyalty.

Picard continued, Even with thermal sensors and cameras and spraying and cleaning the airports and hotels and public spaces, all you have is the basis of someones opinion as to whether it was done right. We need the math and the science to get into this.

Innovative yes, but even more, these health and wellness technologies provide hope in a usually slow to move industry, which Picard noted is now constantly driving forward.

You shouldnt waste this good pandemic stalling the global market, he said. Now is the time to pull off a total reset.

How to live longer: Best ingredients to add to your smoothie to boost longevity – Express

To live a long and healthy life, ensuring your diet is as natural as possible is key. Preparing meals and drinks at home is one of the best ways to ensure this as you know exactly what you are consuming without any hidden and nasty ingredients. Smoothies have become extremely popular amongst the health conscious. According to science and health experts, what are the three best ingredients to add in your smoothie to help boost your longevity?

Polyphenolsprovide significantprotection againstthe development and progression of many chronic pathological conditions including cancer, diabetes, cardio-vascular problems and aging.

Polyphenol foods are known to help boost longevity and fruits with high levels of polyphenols include black elderberries, strawberries, red raspberries, blueberries, plums, andblackcurrants.

A recent published in theJournal of Nutritionfound that large amounts of polyphenols can also boost your longevity.

Researchers found that people who took in 650 mg per day experienced a 30 percent lower mortality rate than those who took in less than 500 mg per day.

Increasing your consumption of fruits and vegetables is the best way to bolster your daily intake of these health-promoting compounds, said Dr Charlie Seltzer, a Philadelphia-based physician who specializes in anti-aging treatments.

He continued: The outer layers of many fruits and vegetables contain the highest concentrations of polyphenols, so don't peel off the skin before you eat them.

Another way to get more polyphenols from fruit is to consume them before they ripen, because polyphenol activity lessens as fruit ages.

A study showed that freeze-drying fruit,as opposed to chilling it,preserves 80 percent of its antioxidants, including polyphenols.

Cruciferous vegetable are powerhouses when it comes to overall health.

With the unique ability to modify human hormones, activate the bodys natural detoxification system and inhibit the growth of cancerous cells.

Cruciferous vegetables should be chewed thoroughly or eaten shredded, chopped, juiced, or blended in order to release their potent anti-cancer properties.

The cruciferous phytochemical sulforaphane has also been found to protect the blood vessel wall from inflammatory signalling that can lead to heart disease.

Cruciferous vegetables are the most nutrient-dense of all the foods.

For a smoothie with health benefits to boost longevity, try adding either broccoli, kale or cabbage.

The nutritional profile of seeds is very similar to nuts in that they provide healthy fats, minerals, and antioxidants, however, seeds have more protein and are abundant in trace minerals.

Flax, chia, and hemp seeds are rich in omega-3 fats.

Flax, chia, and sesame seeds are also rich lignans, breast cancer-fighting phytoestrogens.

Sesame seeds are rich in calcium and vitamin E, and pumpkin seeds are especially rich in zinc.

For maximum nutritional benefits, try adding flax or chia seeds to your daily smoothie.

All our cells are filled with small energy generators called mitochondria - but when mitochondria become old, they become less-efficient, and even possibly toxic.

Old mitochondria are recycled by the cell into new mitochondria - and this, in turn, is mitophagy.

With age, this recycling progress slows down which can lead to muscle weakness.

Scientists have discovered pomegranates contain a substance called urolithin A.

The red rich fruit is known to be one of the healthiest for a reason. It is called as a divine fruit because it is the most mentioned fruit in theological books.

Pomegranate has antioxidant, anti-viral and anti-tumour properties and is said to be a good source of vitamins, especially vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E, as well as folic acid.

US Pacific Presence: The Dark Side of the Compacts of Free Association – The Diplomat

In a recent International Center for Advocates Against Discrimination (ICAAD) report, a team of over 31 collaborating organizations worked to illuminate the inequalities resulting from the Compacts of Free Association (COFA). Drawing on history, policy, and legal analysis, they make the case that U.S. relations with the freely associated states are not benevolent partnerships, but one-sided agreements that are heavily influenced by the unequal power dynamics.

As the renewal negotiations commence, the international community must examine what economic assistance means in light of the decades of colonial destruction that has yet to be remedied. If the goal is to foster benevolent partnerships and to deserve a presence in the region, the United States must acknowledge and remedy this legacy of harm.

The COFAs are between the U.S. and three countries in the North Pacific: Micronesia (FSM), the Marshall Islands (RMI), and Palau. The key provisions of the agreements include U.S. military access and strategic denial; independent, self-governing status for the freely associated states; and economic assistance from the U.S.

The economic assistance for the FSM-RMI COFA is set to expire in 2023 which is why discussions about the negotiations have begun this year. Although there are many areas to explore in the negotiations, including compensation for the U.S. nuclear weapons testing program and health care access for COFA migrants in the U.S., Washington has set the terms narrowing the scope of the discussions to just the expiring economic provisions.

Get briefed on the story of the week, and developing stories to watch across the Asia-Pacific.

The issues related to the COFAs are complex and vary across the three states. Yet, the common COFA narrative describes the agreement in terms of U.S. military access in exchange for economic assistance and migration provisions. While we often hear about COFA politics through the lens of great power competition, ICAADs report unpacks issues related to human rights, migration, and environmental protection with a focus on the COFA provisions and policies that perpetuate inequities.

Enjoying this article? Click here to subscribe for full access. Just $5 a month.

The historical context of the COFAs is integral to understanding the current status quo. Across the region, military and strategic interests have always driven U.S. involvement even to the point of political meddling and regime change in Palau and empty and exploitative promises of self-sufficiency have resulted in dependency and neglect.

During the U.S. colonial administration over Micronesia, American leaders reported on the strategy to maximize U.S. interests in the region. They argued that increased economic assistance would guarantee the loyalty of the islands as a result of economic dependency.

While economic dependency on the United States was the central strategy to ensure the longevity of U.S. military access to the region, the U.S. position continues to tout self-sufficiency. However, for 40 years prior to independence, the policies of economic dependency undermined the freely associated states positions to become self-sufficient states.

The reality is that economic assistance never shifted to promote the political autonomy of the freely associated states in any meaningful way. While some have argued that the United States contributions to the freely associated states have been understated, others describe these contributions as mere payments in reciprocity for U.S. military benefits.

Economic anthropologist Jason Hickel makes the argument for changing the conversation in international development from aid offered to countries who have caused their own problems to reparations paid for the harm, extraction, and underdevelopment caused by colonization. This case is particularly strong in the North Pacific where colonization is underpinned by racism and American empire-building at the cost of lives, communities, culture, livelihoods, and the health of the environment.

The harm and destruction are clear in the Marshall Islands, where the United States tested nuclear weapons and land-grabbed atolls for strategic purposes. But it extends across the three freely associated states with climate inaction, the U.S., failure to protect COFA migrants from human trafficking, and the explicit exclusion of COFA migrants from federal benefits, including Medicaid, among other challenges explored in the report.

Not only is there ongoing harm perpetrated by the United States, but Washington has also been unwilling to acknowledge the damage. For example, if you look at the U.S. Embassy website, there is no acceptance of the full scope of responsibility for the nuclear devastation caused by the nuclear tests, which vaporized islands and uprooted entire communities from their homes.

Where the U.S. government has acknowledged responsibility, they have significantly narrowed the scope. For example, following the nuclear weapons testing program, compensation for land use and medical care was provided to only four atolls when the radioactive fallout impacted the entire country.

The United States is fond of describing its relations with the freely associated states as equal partnerships. However, a look at history and legal analysis of the COFAs and their related provisions tells a different story, one in which a conversation about reparations would be more appropriate.

Why is there a need of Global Health Revolution – The Financial Express

The environment directly affects our health and plays a major role in our quality of life, longevity, and health disparities.

By Kunal Sood

When it comes to Global Health, there is no THEM, only US

GLOBAL HEALTH COUNCIL

Global health is an important phenomenon nowadays and an urgent social concern. A sick and ailing population across the globe has created geo-political instability and compromised our security. Mutating patterns of diseases that include the COVID-19 pandemic as well as other factors such as the lack of PPE in the field to protect our frontline global health practitioners have created tremendous challenges. We are in the midst of a global health crisis here and now. More than ever before do the fields of science, psychology, innovation and technology need to come together to create a better future for us.

Here are some of the most pressing global health issues we face today that we need to solve for with scientific and technological innovation:

Efficient and affordable access to effective healthcare: Good and affordable health services should be a human right and available within reasonable reach given the exponential innovation in the field of medicine to those who require them whenever necessary. It should be convenient, effective and affordable irrespective of ones age, caste, colour, creed, sex, race or religion. Apart from easy access, there should be a safe, evidence-based protocol when treating the likes of a global health crisis from such communicable diseases like the current pandemic and rarer diseases like chikungunya. Additionally With the overall increase of illness like cancer, diabetes, and other non-communicable diseases worldwide, access to quality health care for all is essential in reducing health inequality and the road map in order to do this lies in using technological innovation and democratizing digital health for all

Environmental quality: The environment directly affects our health and plays a major role in our quality of life, longevity, and health disparities. Poor air quality is linked to premature death, cancer, and long-term damage to our respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Secondhand smoke containing toxic and carcinogenic chemicals that contributes to cardiovascular disease and lung cancer in non-smoking adults. Globally, nearly 25% of all deaths and the total disease burden can be attributed to poor environmental factors. Safe and clean air, land, and water are fundamental to a healthy community and a healthy environment. Smoke and pollution-free environment help prevent disease and even helps advanced medicine heal and cure other health problems. As an alternative today we have technologies such as HEPA and UV light air purifiers that can help control the high levels of air pollution and second-hand smoke to protect the ones we love and create a healthier environment by design

Mental health: Mental health problems have spiked given the recent lockdowns and although help is available we must deploy more resources and capital towards helping those that suffer. People with mental health problems can get better and many fully recover from depression and other forms of mental illness. Mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act and often causes stress which is the underlying cause for many physical ailments as well. Our mental state often determines how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your mindset, mood, and behaviour could be affected negatively. Hence it is vital to pay attention to your mental health and use health-based apps such as headspace or calm on your smartphone to help inculcate the practice of mindfulness to regulate your emotional wellbeing. Yoga is also known to do wonders for the mind, body and soul connection so find time in your daily routine to integrate mediation and yoga into your way of life.

Substance abuse: Substance abuse can be very harmful to your health given the hazardous nature of certain substances if overdosed, including alcohol and illicit drugs. Psychoactive substance use can lead to addiction and eventually in some cases leads to isolation and even death. The solution lies in legislating effective policies which influence the consumption levels and patterns of substance use to minimize related harm can significantly reduce the public health problem. In addition health interventions that use technology to track and alert health care workers in time to intervene in cases where one may overdose can save a life. Such interventions with technology can also be used for rehab once the patient is stable with the right kind of medical supervision can recover and restore their overall wellbeing.

Tobacco: Over 80% of the worlds 1.3 billion tobacco users live in low- and middle-income countries. The tobacco epidemic is the second biggest public health threats the world has ever faced, killing more than 8 million people a year around the world. More than 7 million of those deaths are the result of direct tobacco use while around 1.2 million are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke. Again here we must be able to use conscious media and technology to help change behaviour and quit smoking. Furthermore, we must create awareness around protecting those that suffer around smokers due to second-hand smoke.

Obesity: Obesity has become the number one epidemic globally outpacing even tobacco and is defined as the abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk of our health in all forms. Obesity is one side of the double burden of malnutrition, and today more people are obese than underweight. It is associated with a higher risk for serious diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and chronic lower back pain which affects ones overall quality of life.

It is critical that we as a nation and planet take stock of both our personal and communal healthcare systems and personal wellbeing. There has never been a better time for us to launch a Global Health Revolution. We can light the spark that ignites a movement that doesnt just save our planet but transforms humanity to usher in a new era of human prosperity and planetary flourishing. A place where technology truly serves all of the wonder and biodiversity that exists in our world. But most important make sure that every life counts and every human being matters.

"The first stage was be a functional human again, and open the door with the keys" – SportsJOE.ie

The word went around about Cian Healy, back in 2007, that there was a young lad in the Leinster set-up that had pretty much lifted ALL the weights. He was bulling about his peers, in training, and his coaches felt he would get more out of sessions with the senior squad.

Healy was 19 when he made his senior Leinster debut and he added 13 more appearances the following season, 2007/08, before nailing down the No.1 jersey in 2009 as he helped his province to their first ever European Cup. There was talk of him being a possible bolter for the Lions Tour to South Africa but he missed out on that fun and had to wait until Australia came to Croke Park, later that year, to make his Test debut.

"The whole occasion," recalls Healy of his debut, "just class to be playing in Croker. There were so many big names in our team which kind of shocked me a bit. I was young and cocky and confident in myself, and I got a bit of slagging for it. But some of that confidence goes a long way.

"I remember Paulie [O'Connell] tapped me down a ball from a kick-off and that was my one outstanding memory of that game, I got a bit of a run off it."

He got a bit of a run in the Test XV too as, over the next five years, he started 46 of his 48 Test appearances, excelled at the 2011 World Cup, made the 2013 Lions squad and won his first Six Nations title in 2014.

2015 was the year where that run was brought to a jarring halt. He had already dealt with bad hamstring and ankle injuries, in the previous years, but he went in for neck surgery not long after the 2015 Six Nations. The Clontarf prop was left without the use of his right arm due to nerve damage and, he once recalled, his retirement and insurance papers were all signed and ready to send off before that year's World Cup.

He began to get feeling and sensation back in his arm, though, and he held off on ending his career at the age of 27. Now, days away from what will be his 100th Test appearance for Ireland, Healy spoke about his journey back from the brink.

"Eventually, it was broken down into so many stages. The first stage of that was be a functional human again and open the door with the keys, and stuff like that.

"Each time I became capable of something Id work on another new standard that I could work on, something else more achievable. Id build through them and keep progressing though those goals to get into the international team again. And then get to the standard of the international team. Then it was a constant drive for fitness and getting my standards up because rugby keeps moving on."

Asked what was the secret to his longevity, Healy was quick to pay credit to the team of people around him at his province, and support from those close to him.

"I've relied on a lot and rehab coaches and physios to bring me back from the brink," Cian Healy says. "They do it day in and day out for other players, and everyone requires these people at some stage to drag them back from injuries or tough places. So a lot of it stems from that.

"And a bit of a drive, personally. Im not that type of person to settle down too easily and roll over, so a bit of that as well."

Morning Coffee: Lloyd Blankfein to become an EDM DJ? This is what a New York banker looks like – eFinancialCareers

Goldman Sachs is coming for the net worth of its current and its ex-CEOs. After agreeing to pay a total of $5bn in penalties relating to its role in the 1MDB Malaysian investment fund scandal, the firmhas decided to punish thepeople who were supposed to prevent this sort of thing happening.

The Wall Street Journal reports that 'executives' at Goldman are having $174m deducted from their pay. Bonuses are being cut for current CEODavid Solomon and three 'top lieutenants' (presumably including COO John Waldron and maybe chief risk officer, Brian Lee and another). Moneyis also being clawed back from Lloyd Blankfein and 'other departed' senior people.

Blankfein and the ex-Goldmanites would seem most culpable: the infractions took place on their watch. Goldman's own general counsel said yesterday that between2009 and 2014 the bank, "knowingly and willfully agreed to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act by corruptly promising, and paying bribes to foreign officials in order to obtain and retain business for Goldman Sachs. In 2012 and 2013 specifically, Goldman helped 1MDB raise $6.5bn by selling bonds to investors. That money was mostly stolen, apparentlywith the assistanceof two Goldman bankers -Timothy Leissner and Roger Ng (who still says he's innocent).

The UK's Financial Conduct Authority, which yesterday levied its own fine of97m ($126m), madethe affair sound like a failure of Goldman's much vaunted culture."When confronted with allegations of bribery and staff misconduct, the firms mishandling allowed severe misconduct to go unaddressed," saidMark Steward, FCA executive director of enforcement.

It's not clear how much of his~$1bn net worth is now at risk, but Lloyd Blankfein - who is currently on a 'gap year' wasn't saying anything about it onTwitter. The likelihood is that Goldman will now make deductions from Blankfein's 'at risk' stock, which was withheld for five years after he left at the end of 2018. Goldman's 2019 proxy statement suggests easily exceeds $50m.

Blankfein, whose life now includeshanging out with celebrities on yachts, might yetencouraged to take up a side-gig. We'd suggest he couldbecome an electronic dance music (EDM) DJ alongside David Solomon. The novelty value of two Goldman CEOswould surely be a draw. It would alsomake an alternative to leaving Goldman and going into government....

The real question, though, is what happens to Gary Cohn, Goldman's Blankfein-era COO. Cohn did go into government when he left in 2017 and all his stock therefore vested immediately. Can Goldman claw this back too? Cohn may have made the wisest move.

Separately, the Office of the New York State Comptroller yesterday issued a report on the State of the Securities Industry in New York for bankers/traders in the city to benchmark themselves against.

Two thirds of the people in New York's securities industry are men (a proportion that's remained surprisingly stable over time). 60% are white. 35% are immigrants from Asia and Europe. 9% are Hispanic. 7% are African American. 59% of people working in securities live in the city, 41% commute-in (mostly from New Jersey). 37% have a higher degree (a proportion that's rising). And a surprisingly small 12% work in technology functions in the securities sector....

Also interesting were the figures for pay. The average total compensation for securities employees in NYC is $406,700, comprised of a bonus of$164,100 and a salary of $242,600. In Manhattan, average securities compensation was even higher, at $411k. In Suffolk County, where hedge funds are based, it was higher still, at$621,368.

If these pay figuresare making you feel inadequate, it's worth considering that the median is likely to be far lower.- The comptroller's report also said that30% of people working in New York's securities industry earn less than $100k.

Meanwhile...

Hedge fund Elliott Investment Management is moving itsbase from midtown Manhattan to West Palm Beach, Florida andopening facilities in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Florida to help employees work from home. (Financial Times)

The European Union appears to be using rules related to thedelegation of fund management to push hedge fund jobs into Europe. (Financial Times)
